Effect of Cognitive Therapeutic Exercise on the Upper Limb Function - Case of Patient with Motor Aphasia : A Single Case Study

Abstract
Objective: This research is to prove the cognitive therapeutic exercise(CTE) efficiency in upper limb function for the patient with motor aphasia.

Methods: This research is 70 aged man who got diagnosis of right hemiplegia though the left Middle Cerebral Artery infarction on Jan. 7. 2009. and CTE was conducted for 50 minutes of one session each five times a week for a total of 4 weeks from 16, May, 2011 to 10, June, 2011. The evaluation was conducted before and after the treatment, using Modified Barthel Index(MBI), Manual Function Test(MFT) and CTE profile. Also using example answer for apply CTE to patient with motor aphasia.

Results: After CTE, MBI showed 86 score in the initial test and 91 scores, the increased of 5 scores in the last test. MFT test showed the increase of 4.4 scores regarding the upper extremity of the affected side in the retest.
Conclusion: After applying the therapy that the CTE suggests to the patient with motor aphasia, there have been positive effects in term of improving upper limb function.
